ABOUT MERODE

No label fits at Merode. That's why we call it 'an open space'. Open to colouring outside the lines, reaching your own interpretation and thinking outside the box.

THE BUILDING

Merode is a former textile company in the vibrant heart of Ronse. The ideal location for Patric to house his ever-growing collection. At Merode, he shares his passion for contemporary art with others.

Merode refers to the address of the premises on Mérodestraat in Ronse. And we pronounce it 'ME-rode' to place the emphasis on ‘me’. It's a space where Patric can do as he pleases.

'MERODE AN OPEN SPACE'

“Broaden your perspective. Form your own opinion. Dialogue and difference of opinion are what make the world an interesting place!"

A quote that is also the definition of 'open space': a place where there is room for your own perspective, your own opinion, your own story. Merode is not a foundation. It is not a museum. Nor is it a gallery or party venue. It was originally a hobby, but one that got out of hand. Not a place open to the public. The idea to open Merode to the general public didn't come until friends began to ask if they could visit the collection.

It is a work in progress and home to a variety of spaces that offer multiple possibilities. When visiting, it's best to bring an open mind to see the overall picture. Merode is the work of collector Patric, and he shapes it much like an artist would.

In turn, it gives space to young artists in which to tell stories through their works. Visitors reach their own interpretations of what they see in Merode. Recently, families, groups of friends and companies have celebrated their own milestones among the artworks. Merode is open for receptions, meetings, workshops, seminars, etc. Marie will assist you in organising your events.

PATRIC & MARIE TUYTENS

Patric and Marie were both raised among the artworks. Patric, as the son of an entrepreneur in the textile industry who started his own art collection, and Marie, as Patric's daughter who expanded the collection and moved it to Merode.

Together, they open Merode to visitors, businesses and events.

THE COLLECTION

The collection is personal, intuitive and humorous. It features young artists and established names. Artists of Belgian and other nationalities. All the works were chosen and purchased by Patric. Not for their investment value, but for their enrichment of his and others' lives.
